Our farm
The excellent quality of ATALAYA BIO's biodynamic and organic aloe vera inner leaf gel distinguishes our food supplements and cosmetics as unique products in the market, due to the set of exceptional factors which define us, such as the privileged location of our iconic farm.
The perfect climate
Southeastern Spain, with its semi-arid, warm and dry corners, is the perfect location for aloe vera farming, the only area within continental Spain where this plant can be harvested all year round, due to the fact this is the only place in mainland Europe with a hot desert climate. The Mediterranean - only ten kilometers away from our farm - brings its cool sea breeze to our farm, softening the high summer temperatures, with less thermal contrasts. Here, aloes enjoy an average annual temperature of 19.7ºC, frost absence in winter, an annual rainfall of less than 200 ml, and over 3200 sunshine hours per year (60% more than the minimum 2000 hours required by aloe vera). This is one of the reasons why ATALAYA BIO is rich in active components, such as acemannan and other polysaccharides, which make our food supplements and cosmetics highly effective.
An exceptional natural environment
Our farm is a 500-hectare space drawn around a closed valley. Aloe vera crops are surrounded by mountains, on ravines and fertile soils, optimal for the cultivation of biodynamic aloe vera. Aloes here have the purest environment, isolated from any source of pollution, in this farm placed within a natural protected area of the Natura 2000 Network. Natura 2000 Network is the set of spaces protected by the European Union due to its great environmental value and biodiversity.
Water of exceptional quality
Water is a precious commodity in the south of Spain. Our plants are irrigated with pure spring water. This is a key differentiating factor, since the quality of the aloe vera gel depends significantly on the quality of the irrigation water. We use the most advanced drip irrigation technology.
Biodynamic farming
As in other variants of organic farming, biodynamic agriculture avoids the use of pesticides, herbicides or industrial fertilizers, resorting to natural alternatives. However, its methods are even more restrictive than those accepted by organic farming, providing a plus of sustainable commitment. For example, biodynamic agriculture does not allow the use of copper. Copper is a powerful fungicide accepted in organic farming, but it has the disadvantage of accumulating in the soil, damaging its fertility in the long term, generating a toxicity problem derived from the increase in its concentration. Biodynamic agriculture has both vegetable and mineral preparations as additives to compost and soil preparation, following a sowing calendar based on the movement of the main stars (and the moon).
